Charcoal toothpaste has always been something I was hesitant to try with the fear of damaging my teeth, but something about the Ecodenta Extra Black Whitening Toothpaste made me want to give it a go. Does charcoal actually make your teeth whiter?
Packaging
The packaging first of all, is sleek! I’m always drawn to simple, eye-catching packaging especially for products that are ‘different’ from others on the market, and this is exactly that. The black portrays a classy and premium look. The packaging gets an A* from me.
Claims and Experience
The toothpaste contains black charcoal and Teavigo, a natural green tea extract made through a proprietary, patented process that concentrates the benefits of fresh green tea leaves. The product claims to help protect against tartar, provide a gentle antibacterial and give you that long-lasting feeling of "cleanliness and freshness", so of course I was curious to see if these claims lived up to their words.
The first time I squeezed the product onto my toothbrush, even though I knew the toothpaste contained charcoal, the stark black colour scared me a little. Black toothpaste on white teeth? Something I had to mentally get my head around. On application, I began to get a little excited. The toothpaste had a slight minty taste which was a pleasant surprise at first, and after brushing, I did have that sense of "freshness", which I hadn’t experienced with my regular drug store toothpaste. It’s not the strong kind of mint like mouthwash would give you, but rather a subtle cooling sensation which I actually prefer.
Ecodenta |
Another thing I noticed was that you don’t end up using as much toothpaste as you may normally use, which is a plus. Since using the product, my teeth have actually been feeling a lot cleaner and fresher.
The whitening aspect of it however, I haven’t noticed a significant difference from pictures taken or even in real life, but I have only been using it for a month, so that could be why. Sensitivity is also something I take note of when trying a new dental product, and it's safe to say this product doesn't make my teeth susceptible. So it’s safe to say, my experience has been so much better than expected.
Will I continue to use it?
Yes. I do like it and I am still curious to find out how effective its whitening benefits are, as that is something I have been struggling to find in a toothpaste. Ecodenta Extra Black Whitening Toothpaste is easy to get your hands on, and is sold in Holland & Barrett and on Amazon at a super affordable price point of £4.99. For freshness, cleanliness and protection against sensitivity, it's definitely worth a shot.
